Open grants and assistance programs

There are a lot of government grants available. To keep up with all of them and knowing what each will cover is a vast and time-consuming task if you do it properly.

Here we cover the NSW state government grants and incentives for small and medium enterprises which are currently open.

Jobs Plus program

The Jobs Plus program provides support to Australian and international businesses that want to start or expand their operations in NSW. Program support will help reduce the costs and financial risks of growing a business or moving its operations to NSW.

To be eligible for the program, Australian businesses must currently employ at least 20 workers and overseas businesses must employ at least 80 workers. All businesses must be able to create at least 30 net new full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs in NSW before 30 June 2024. Further conditions apply.

Dine & Discover NSW Voucher scheme

The NSW Government has launched a voucher scheme to encourage the community to support hospitality, arts and tourism businesses.

Eligible businesses can now register for the scheme. For more information, visit Dine & Discover NSW.

Business Events Grants program

The Business Events Grants program aims to support businesses that have cancelled events due to COVID-19. Grants of $10,000 to $250,000 are available to eligible businesses who plan to run high value, multi-day, business-to-business events across a list of priority sectors, such as food and agribusiness, tourism, enabling digital technologies and media.

Funding covers up to 50% of costs incurred by participating at pre-approved events as buyers or sellers during 2021. Applications close on 30 March 2021. Eligibility criteria apply. Regional job creation fund

Businesses who want to expand or relocate their operations to regional NSW may be eligible for funding under the NSW Government’s Regional Job Creation Fund.

The fund provides co-funding for projects that create 5 or more sustainable jobs within regional NSW, including those that:

  • replace, upgrade or adapt existing plant or equipment, including technology or energy efficiency upgrades
  • enable existing regional NSW businesses to establish an additional production line
  • relocate a business from interstate or internationally to regional NSW, or onshore an activity currently being undertaken overseas to regional NSW
  • develop new tourism experiences and attractions to create new demand in a region.

Applications close Friday 14 May 2021 or when program funding is fully allocated. Businesses must belong to an eligible industry depending on their region.

Travel support program

Travel agents and tour arrangement service providers that have lost income due to COVID-19 may be eligible for a one-off grant of $1500 to $100,000 under the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Consumer Travel Support Program. Funding will help eligible businesses continue trading and meet legal obligations to pay refunds and credits to Australian consumers.

Businesses must have had an annual GST turnover of $50,000 to $20 million in the 2019 calendar year. Additional eligibility criteria apply.
